News

Welcome to baseball 2008!! The fields of Prospect Park were full of SFX players, from PeeWee to Bantam, after a sunny parade took them from Carroll Street to the bandshell for opening day ceremonies. After a long winter’s rest, we can finally say. . . PLAY BALL!   back to top

Divisions

There are seven baseball divisions for players ranging in age from 4 to 16 years of age. Players are assigned to divisions based on age, so that players of comparable skill level play one another in fair competition. Please consult the birthday chart to register for the correct division.

If a child is more skilled than other players of the same age, that player may “play up,” that is, play in a division with older children at the discretion of the SFX Youth Sports Board of Directors. Playing up is discouraged because field dimensions may be too large for younger players, which increases the chance of injury in both the short and long term.   back to top

Schedule

All schedules for the in-house, St. Francis Xavier co-ed teams can be found on the PPBA website.   back to top

Fields

Most fields are in Prospect Park, at the South end of the park. For maps and driving directions, please check the PPBA website.   back to top

Parents

Parents are encouraged to volunteer wherever possible, to promote a fun, family-oriented activity. A parent information sheet is available for download, which answers basic questions about the program. Please note that parents are required to follow guidelines for conduct consistent with the mission of SFX Youth Sports.    back to top

Coaches

SFX Youth Sports is an all-volunteer organization. Parents who would like to volunteer their time should contact Javier Rosario, SFX Youth Sports President. SFX provides a coaches handbook to promote SFX standards, and posts the coaches schedule listing important dates throughout the baseball season.    back to top

Registration

Players are asked to attend the rating day in January or February, even if they plan on playing on the same team as the prior year. This gives coaches a chance to assess skill levels and fairly balance teams. The registration form should be completed, printed out, and either mailed to SFX Youth Sports or brought to the rating day.    back to top
